#DropTheSuit – Show your support for charter schools at SLPS board meeting, May 19, 2016

The Missouri Charter Public Schools Association is asking families, teachers and staff and community members who support charter schools to attend the Saint Louis Public Schools Special Administrative Board meeting on Thursday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. The SAB Meeting is open to the public, and it’s held at 801 N. 11th Street, Room 108.

MCPSA is asking people to show their concern over the motion filed by SLPS against the state of Missouri for repayment of $50 million that SLPS alleges was overpaid to public charter schools in St. Louis since 2006. MCPSA is not asking for an angry protest, but rather a show of support to demonstrate that families and community members have a vested interest in public education, choice for all students, and concern about the impact the motion could have on public charter schools.

MCPSA also invites you to speak during public comments at the board meeting. Please be prepared with a statement. Your statement should reflect why you chose a charter school, how charter schools affect your family, etc. If you want to speak, you should arrive early - no later than 5:40 p.m. - so you can sign up to address the board, per SLPS’ rules. If you choose to speak during comments, the suggestion is to keep a copy of your remarks for yourself and a copy to leave with SLPS.
